Bosom Buddies Bristol

The people behind Bosom Buddies

We have a friendly, warm and knowledgable team here to help you with any of your needs

Dawn Thomas

Chairperson

Dawn is a local lady and has worked in most the areas in Bristol as a District Nurse.  She left this role to become a nurse in Palliative care in Reading, with Bristol always being her home.

In 2021, Dawn was diagnosed with breast cancer.  It was after her lumpectomy and radiotherapy that she engaged with Bosom Buddies.

Dawn has always been directly involved with our fundraising events, social meetings and has been an integral part of the group since she joined.

Kate Oldham

Complementary therapist

Kate has been a Cancer Rehabilitation specialist for over 10 years. During this time she has expanded her qualifications by training in various holistic therapies to support anybody with a long term condition or short term illness. Training in centres such as the Royal Marsden and Velindre Hospital.

Her specialisms are working with lymphoedema and scars, but loves the variety of treatments she can provide to clients to help them with the side effects of treatment, both physically and emotionally.

Kate likes to support her clients with not only hands on therapy but through self management techniques building confidence for clients to support themselves.

She not only has the experience of working within this field but also been through the diagnosis and treatment journey of breast cancer, which in her words “my cancer diagnosis has been the best learning experience to help support my clients”.

Sue Stevens

Treasurer

Sue Stevens comes from a banking background and therefore a natural choice as Treasurer.

Having been diagnosed with Breast Cancer 2007 Sue wanted to give back and help other people in similar situations.

Sue is semi retired working in the NHS and enjoys travelling with her husband Roger and spending time with family.

Veronica Swann

Secretary

I joined Bosom Buddies in 2010 following my diagnosis. In about 2014 I took on organising the monthly lunches at Penny Brohn. Take-up was slow in early years but since Covid everyone is so keen to meet up we now regularly have 15-20 ladies at lunch each month. I also listen to and respond to the messages left on our answerphone service and check our email inbox. I have been married to Chris for 40 years, have three children and three lovely granddaughters. I was a medical secretary in NHS before retiring 2 years ago so am happy to help with the admin of this wonderful caring/supportive charity.

Bridget Evans

I have been with Bosom Buddies for 6 year’s. A lovely friendly support group, with Ladies who understand each other. I always say…Don’t look for miracles you, yourself are a miracle.
